Arsenal were confirmed as Premier League champions for the first time since 2004 after Manchester City failed to win at Bournemouth on Tuesday, drawing 1-1 and ceding the title to the Gunners with one match remaining.
City needed to win their final two games and hope Arsenal lost their last fixture, but a second-half equalizer from Dominic Solanke canceled out an early Erling Haaland goal, leaving Pep Guardiola’s side two points behind Arsenal with only one game left.
The title ends Arsenal’s two-decade drought, during which they finished as runners-up three times, and caps a season defined by defensive solidity and attacking flair under manager Mikel Arteta, who took over in 2019.
“This is the result of hard work, belief, and the unity of this group from day one,” Arteta said. “We never gave up, and now we have achieved something special for this club and its fans.”
Captain Martin Odegaard echoed the sentiment: “We believed from the start. Everyone wrote us off after last season, but we came back stronger. This is for the supporters.”
