Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from Wimbledon as Wrist Injury Recovery Continues

Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from Wimbledon and the entire grass-court season as he continues recovery from a right wrist injury that will sideline him for at least three months during the busiest part of the tennis calendar.

Alcaraz last competed in April at the Barcelona Open, where he retired during his second-round match after feeling pain in his right wrist. The 23-year-old had already withdrawn from the clay-court season, including the French Open, which begins Sunday.

“My recovery is going well and I’m feeling much better, but unfortunately I’m still not ready to compete, which is why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen’s and Wimbledon,” Alcaraz wrote in a statement on social media. “They are two truly special tournaments for me and I will miss them a lot. We’ll keep working to come back as soon as possible!”

Alcaraz is the reigning champion at Roland Garros, where he defeated Jannik Sinner in one of the greatest Grand Slam finals of all time. The Spanish player, a two-time Wimbledon champion, reached the final there last year, losing to Sinner in four sets.

The injury prevents Alcaraz from defending his French Open title and competing at the grass-court events he has excelled at, but he remains focused on a full recovery and return to competition.
