Trump delays Iran strike at Gulf states’ request, warns of full assault

President Donald Trump announced Monday he has postponed a planned military strike against Iran, citing requests from Gulf Arab states as “serious negotiations are now taking place.”

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates had asked him to delay the attack.

Trump said he had been informed that a deal would be reached that is “very acceptable” to the United States, adding emphatically: “There will be NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS FOR IRAN!”

However, he warned that the U.S. military remains prepared to “go forward with a full, large scale assault of Iran, on a moment’s notice” if no acceptable agreement emerges.

Iranian officials have not publicly responded to Trump’s latest statement.

Over the weekend, Trump had cautioned Tehran that the “clock is ticking” as negotiations aimed at ending the conflict reached an impasse.

Israeli and U.S. forces launched massive airstrikes on Iran on February 28, and Tehran retaliated by firing drones and missiles at Israel and U.S. targets in Gulf states.

A ceasefire brokered in April to facilitate diplomatic talks has largely held, despite occasional exchanges of fire.

Iran has maintained its control over the Strait of Hormuz, effectively closing the strategic waterway that handles approximately 20% of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas.

Tehran says the move is retaliation for U.S. and Israeli attacks, and it has driven global oil prices sharply higher.

The United States has been enforcing a naval blockade of Iranian ports to pressure Tehran into accepting its negotiating terms.
