US comedian Laura Clery described how she nearly died when her 600lb fridge fell on her at home, pinning her beneath the appliance and leaving her struggling to breathe while her two young children were present.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, Clery called the experience the “most terrifying night of my life as a single mom.”
Clery said she spotted her 7-year-old son, Alfie, climbing on the wall-mounted fridge and noticed it shift slightly.
“I ran over to push it back into place. I thought I’d just nudge it in and move on with my day like a woman who has control over her life. The second I pushed it, it came down on me,” she said.
She added: “I couldn’t move. Couldn’t breathe right. Was impossible to get off and I could feel myself losing consciousness.
“I’m just there, pinned under a fridge, thinking this is the dumbest way anyone has ever died.”
Clery managed to reach her phone and call 911. “I genuinely didn’t know if I was getting out of that alive. Thank God my phone was in my pocket and I was able to call 911,” she said, adding that multiple firefighters were required to lift the fridge off her.
She was immediately taken to the hospital.
Clery was previously married to British record producer Stephen Hilton, with whom she has two children, Alfie and 5-year-old Poppy. She has since returned home and is recovering from the incident.
