Bangladesh Seal Historic Home Test Series Win Over Pakistan

Bangladesh secured a historic home Test series victory against Pakistan, defeating the visitors by 78 runs in the second Test in Sylhet.

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam claimed six wickets to spearhead Bangladesh’s series-clinching win on the fifth day Wednesday.

Pakistan, resuming at 316-7 chasing a record 437, were bowled out for 328 in the first session despite a valiant 94 from Mohammad Rizwan.

The victory marked Bangladesh’s first Test series win at home against Pakistan and followed their 2-0 sweep on Pakistani soil in 2024.

Wicketkeeper Rizwan kept Pakistan’s hopes alive with a 166-ball innings after the visitors slumped to 162-5 on day four.

Rizwan added 54 for the eighth wicket with overnight partner Sajid Khan, who made 28.

Taijul broke the partnership by dismissing Sajid, recording his 18th five-wicket haul in Tests, and Shoriful Islam had Rizwan caught in the next over.

Taijul claimed the final wicket of Khurram Shahzad to finish with figures of 6-120, sparking celebrations.

The left-arm spinner had earlier taken 3-67 in Pakistan’s first innings of 232.

Bangladesh wicketkeeper Litton Das scored 126 in their first innings total of 278.

Veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim struck 137 in the second innings to guide Bangladesh to 390, with contributions from Mahmudul Hasan Joy (52) and Litton (69).

Bangladesh, led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, won the opening Test by 104 runs.
